Amman — A Border Guard captain, Muhammad Khodayrat, lost his life, and three soldiers were wounded while confronting smugglers on the northeastern borders this morning.
In a statement, the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army said smugglers opened fire on a Border Guard patrol on the northeastern borders, and soldiers returned fire, compelling the smugglers to retreat back into Syrian regions.
The aftermath is one dead, and three other soldiers injured who were rushed to a nearby military hospital. A search of the area where the incident took place found narcotics which the smugglers left behind, the army announced.
The army reaffirmed its zero-tolerance towards any smuggling and infiltration targeting the nation’s security. The military offered consolations to the deceased captain’s family and wished the injured a rapid recovery.
