Austrian Achievement Award to Local Organization

Amman — Austrian Intercultural Achievement Award (IAA) was presented by Oskar Wustinger, the Austrian Ambassador to Jordan, today to the 7 Hills non-profit organization for their innovative contribution to intercultural dialogue.

The embassy noted that the Intercultural Achievement Award is a key project of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. The award honors successful and innovative civil society projects that identify and make use of opportunities which positively shape intercultural co-existence and interreligious dialogue, it added.

During the ceremony, the envoy announced Austrian funding to support the launch of 7 Hills’ Urban Education Program, a press statement by the Austrian embassy said.

7 Hills is a Jordanian community-based non-for-profit organization that works to create safe public spaces through the construction of skate parks and offers free skateboarding with the aim of empowering local, migrant and refugee youths in Jordan.

As continuing support of 7 Hills’ mission and activities, Wustinger announced Austrian funding to the “Urban Education Program” for six months. This program combines free skateboarding classes followed by arts and crafts sessions for youths between 6-20 years old, with the aim to actively include girls and refugees.

The next call for applications for the Austrian IAA will be launched in January 2022. Applications will be open to non-profit and commercial organizations from Jordan, the embassy added.
