Amman — Yousef Shawarbeh, Mayor of Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), signed an agreement with Turkish Autocar company to provide 136 new buses, according to Jordan News Agency (Petra). Amman bus routes already operate a 135-bus fleet. Shawarbeh said. The municipality is keen to raise the efficiency of Amman’s transportation services through building partnerships with financers, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The new buses shall adhere to the latest standards with the safety of passengers as the top priority. The buses will run on diesel, and shall be equipped with electronic payment systems, cameras, indoor screens, and custom specifications to serve people with disabilities.
The specifications were chosen by technical advisers representing GAM and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
